KRNM has, and will continue to serve as, a training facility for
those interested in pursuing interests in Radio.
KRNMs three studios are equipped with state of the art equipment,
allowing students and volunteers the opportunity to not only broadcast
live, but also to produce Public Service Announcements, promotional
messages, or pre-recorded programs to be aired at various times
throughout our schedule.
Trainees can learn about various aspects of a radio station, including:
Production - the fundamentals of recording techniques and instruction
on operating Reel to Reel, DAT, Cart, Cassette, as well as other
digital and computerized equipment.
Trafficking - the day to day scheduling of a stations programming,
from spot placement to musical formats.
News - an introduction into reporting, including the process of
interviewing, gathering actualities, writing, editing, and reading
news stories.
Sales - the constant necessity of generating revenue, from grant
writing to soliciting donations through pledge drives and fund raisers.
Instruction on script writing, as well as how to prepare and deliver
a successful pitch to a business to receive a contribution or underwriting
sponsorship.
Disc Jockey - how to run a show, from mastering a console to improving
on-air skills.
